Mark Walker Biography

Mark Walker is a travel writer and global development professional whose life and work have been shaped by decades overseas in Latin America, Africa, and Asia. His field experience with international NGOs—such as Care and MAP International, Make a Wish and Hagar—provide the cultural depth and moral lens that define his award winning books and essays. Walker’s writing blends memoir, travelogue, and cultural anthropology, exploring how cross cultural immersion transforms both the traveler and the communities they serve. His work has earned the Peace Corps Worldwide Best Travel Book Award and a Travelers’ Tales Solas Award for Adventure Travel, and his stories continue to appear in literary journals, podcasts, and global media outlets.

Writer
His memoir, Different Latitudes: My Life in the Peace Corps and Beyond, was recognized by the Arizona Literary Association for Non-Fiction. His next book, My Saddest Pleasures: 50 Years on the Road, is part of his Yin & Yang of Travel Series. Walker is a contributing writer for “Revue Magazine,” “The Authors Show,” “The Wanderlust Journal” and the “Literary Traveler.” His column, “The Million Mile Walker Review: What We’re Reading and Why,” is part of the Arizona Authors Association newsletter, “The Authors Digest.” His 75 book reviews are on the Midwest Review Book Shelf and GoodReads.
Various literary journals, including Worldview Magazine and the Scarlet Leaf Review, have published his 28 essays. Two of his essays were recognized by the “Solas Literary Award,” sponsored by “Traveler’s Tales,” including a Bronze for “Best Travel Writing—Adventure Travel.” Another essay was recently published in the ELAND Press newsletter in London.
His honors include the "Service Above Self" award from Rotary International. He’s a Board member of “Advance Guatemala” and an active member of PEN International, Phoenix Writers Club, and the Professional Writers Group.” His wife and three children were born in Guatemala.

Producer
Walker is a producer of “A Documentary Film Production, Guatemala: Trouble in the Highlands,” which was the focus of a feature article in the February 2020 issue of Revue Magazine. He founded Million Mile Walker LLC. in 2016 and is a Vice President and Senior Counsel for Carlton & Company and the Huddleston Group. His honors include the "Service Above Self" award from Rotary International. His wife and three children were born in Guatemala.
